| When beginning the study of
astrology, the very first item to master is the concept of the
astrological chart. The chart helps us visually understand the
positions of the houses, signs, and planets. Without this
tool, it would be very easy to get lost when studying astrology.
So, lets dive into learning about astrological charts.
1. Houses- The Chart refers
to a circle that is divided into twelve sections, otherwise known as
Houses. For the purpose of our studies, we will look at an
equal house system where all of the twelve houses take up 1/12th of
the chart.

2. Hemispheres-
Each chart is also divided into hemispheres.
Eastern Hemisphere
Western Hemisphere

| The Eastern
Hemisphere covers houses 1,2,3,10,
11, and 12 on the left side of the chart. When the
majority of planets are found in the Eastern hemisphere,
it indicates energy that is self-motivated, initiating,
action-oriented, and self-assertive. |
| The Western
Hemisphere covers Houses 4, 5, 6,
7, 8, and 9 on the right half of the chart. This side of
the chart tends to need motivation from others or the
direction of energy is directed outwards and concerns
issues outside of ourselves. The needs of others are
considered before taking action. |
Southern Hemisphere

Northern Hemisphere
| The Southern Hemisphere
covers the upper half of the chart and
Houses 7 through 12. These houses are ones that
show above the horizon for the time the chart was
created. This is the area of the chart that is social,
works with a community, and it is what is on the outside
world. This is about events that happen outside of
us, rather than what is happening on the inside.
|
The Northern
Hemisphere covers the lower half of the
chart and Houses 1 through 6. This is the part that was above
the horizon at the time of birth. These houses rule our internal
development and our personalities. This is the private area of
our charts that we don't always show to others. This part of the
chart is concerned with what is going on inside of the person and
not events on the outside.
3. Quadrants-
Each Chart has four quadrants.
Quadrant 4
Quadrant 3

Quadrant 1
Quadrant 2
Quadrant 1 covers issues of
personal identity. The 1st house is how the world identifies
us, the 2nd house is about what we value, and the 3rd house is how
we communicate and thing.
Personal Identity
Quadrant 2 covers how we
personally express ourselves. The 4th house is about home, the
5th is about fun, creativity, and children, and the 6th is how we
show our work ethic, serve others, and our health.
Personal
Expression
Quadrant 3 covers how we identify socially
with others. The 7th house is about partnerships, the 8th
house is about other people's money and transformation, and the 9th
house is about higher learning, spiritual pursuits, and travel.
Social Identity
Quadrant 4
covers how socially express ourselves. The 10th house is about
social recognition, fame, and honors, the 11th house is about
organizations and our community, and the 12th house is about our
psychological make up and perspective on life.
